Gilded

 

This mesmerizing series is Elijah's most recent body of work, crafted using hand-cut shreds of genuine gold, silver or copper leaf, and inclusions of natural mineral flakes. Delicately layered into each sculpture’s design, he carefully encases the metal inclusions between individual glass shards while building the composition's shape. Within the inner layers, tiny metallic flecks and metal oxide powders are applied into the crevices – a meticulous process to form vein-like trails throughout the work. Once fired, the gilded veins and flashes of metal illuminate the sculpture with an ethereal, opulent glow.
