The
Process
Elijah’s art unfolds through a meticulous layering process, every fragment of glass contributing to the work’s evolving identity. Crafted piece by piece and layer by layer, each sculpture is shaped by hand and fired to form – a transformation of vision into the tangible; raw materials into intricate art.
Freely composed with thousands of hand-crushed glass bits and individually cut shards, Elijah designs and shape each distinctive work by building layers that are intentionally irregular yet harmoniously aligned – a delicate act of both control and spontaneity; a union of fragility and strength. The smallest diversion can move the structure of a carefully planned design in a new and unexpected direction. Any shift, whether intentional or accidental, becomes part of the process dialogue in a continuous exchange of unpredictability and adaptability.
A gradual, multi-day firing process allows the composition’s elements to expand and settle as the molten layers merge and the sculpture’s formation takes shape. Colors blend, patterns emerge, and the interplay of light through transparency and opacity reveal depth and a sense of movement. The melded composition, with its design fully integrated, gradually solidifies into its final form, stabilizing as it anneals before being cold worked and finished to completion.
As a designer-craftsman, Elijah’s passion lives in the space where material and imagination converge, balancing precision and intuition with each stage of creation. Through vivid colors, rich textures and fluid forms, every work of art is shaped by hand and guided by intention – a practice of both process and presence.
